How long will this hiatus be?

Well, I figured it would happen, but I was hoping it wouldn't be this early in the year...  Everything seems to be coming to a head (classes and studying; taking care of the house, kids, dog, husband; part-time work; photography; etc., etc., etc.), and I can't seem to do any one thing as well as I would like.  It's time for me to "clean house", and for the moment, the daily photo has to go while I better prioritize the rest of my life.  Hopefully I'll find myself with time here and there when I have a chance to pick up my camera - I'll post photos then.  But at this point I don't know when that'll be...

(I would like to take a moment to thank Kristy Johnson for all the wonderful, supportive comments she's made about my photos since the beginning of the year...  Kristy, I always looked forward to seeing what you thought about each photo I posted, and your comments meant a lot to me.  Thank you!!)

The "eyes" have it

Miriam has the most beautiful, expressive brown eyes.  Of course, being her mother, I'm probably a bit biased...

Family portrait

Well, sort of...

Bubbles

A close-up of soda bubbles on a straw.  The blue color is from the placemat that was under the glass on the table.

"I'll stop the world and melt with you..."

"I Melt With You" by Modern English is one of my all-time favorite songs.  When I decided to let some ice melt tonight to see what photos I could make of it I didn't even think of the song.  But ever since I returned to the ice to photograph it the song has been stuck in my head...

Wine rack

I think we need some more wine - this bottle looks lonely...

Finally done...

I'm way too anal retentive to actually leave soap suds and the sponge in the sink, but there's just something about this photo that pleases me.  Maybe it's the knowledge that the dishes are finally done and the kitchen cleaned up...

Out to lunch

I had lunch today with an old friend from high school who was passing through town.

Brilliance?

Today's Daily Shoot assignment was to make a photo of a symbol that represents or stands for something else.  I chose to go with the "environmentally conscious idea"...

Framed!

"The Daily Shoot" (www.dailyshoot.com) is a website I came across that gives an "assignment" every day for photos to take.  When I think of it, or when I'm feeling particularly uninspired and I think of it, I check out the daily assignment.  Today's assignment was to make a photo with some sort of frame.  I decided to use my glasses as the frame and, thinking more of the process rather than the subject, I shot an orange through them.  I like the texture of the orange in the photo, but other than that, I think it's kind of a "blah" photo.  But this did give me some ideas of other photos I want to try so all is not lost...

I have nothing to say about this photo - too tired to think right now...

Which brings me to tonight

Once again, wandering through the house, I ended up at the liquor.  Hmmm...  I wonder if there's anything to that...

Brandy, anyone?

We returned home yesterday afternoon, and now it seems like I'm back to wandering around the house at the end of the day, looking for something (anything!) interesting to shoot.  Not always successful in that...

Cornfield in the snow

I wish it hadn't been so blazing cold at my parents' this weekend - I didn't want to go out to take advantage of the photo ops the countryside has to offer!  But this is one shot from a quick walk I took with the kids...

The long and not-so-winding road...

The kids and I went to visit my parents over the long weekend.  This is a view down the road they live on - so strange to see such familiar surroundings through the eyes of an adult...

Nickels and dimes...

I feel like I nickel-and-dime myself to death sometimes.  But rather than in the traditional meaning of the phrase, I nickel-and-dime myself out of TIME.  So many things need to be done every day just to keep the household going that I feel like I've lost most, if not all - sometimes, of the day doing little 5- and 10-minute tasks.  Folding laundry - 10 minutes.  Sorting and putting laundry away - another 10 minutes.  Empty the dishwasher - 5 minutes.  Etc., etc., etc.  Pretty soon half the day is gone, and I have yet to get to anything I want to do.  But all those little things need to be done, so how does one balance it all?  Some days I do better than other days...

Pencils

I was cleaning up some of the kids' things tonight when I had an idea for a shot...

From above

I liked the ice water shot from last night (that I only just now posted) so I decided to stick with that "shooting from above" theme once more...

Ice water

Tried a few different things with this glass of ice water last night...  This one really stood out to me.

Max

I'm going to pretend I wanted a nice, sharp photo of Max's snout...  At least he wasn't sleeping this time...

Oops!

OK, so this is a fake spill, but I was just experimenting...  I'm not horribly happy with this photo, but it did give me some ideas for things I want to try in the future, so it's not a complete failure, I suppose.

Norm MacDonald

We went to see Norm MacDonald last night at a comedy club in town.  Unfortunately, I couldn't bring my camera, but I did manage to take this photo surreptitiously with my phone.  MWAHAHAHA!!!

Up in the air

I went to brunch with some friends this morning and saw these guys working.  I don't think I'd like that job (whatever it was they were doing - washing the windows?  Repairing the windows?) - I've gotten more freaked out by heights as I've gotten older...

Chess, anyone?

I'm not a chess player, but I like chessboards.  Go figure.

This is what happens...

...when I'm totally unmotivated and uninspired.  This is yesterday's photo - I had no desire whatsoever to post it last night.  It's kind of a "blah" photo anyway...

Foiled again!

Experimenting today...  I took some aluminum foil, wadded it up, re-opened it, and took some macro shots of the creases.  Kind of an interesting outcome...
